How do YOU manage overwhelm at work?

We warmly invite you to contribute your insights and techniques for handling workplace overwhelm

Hi there,

We’re nearing the end of our series on tackling overwhelm at work, but before we wrap up, we want to hear from you.

How do you manage feeling overwhelmed at work? We’d love to hear stories and strategies that you use personally and with your teams.

Next week, we're excited to showcase your most insightful strategies for dealing with overwhelm, giving credit to contributors as requested. Also, watch for a full conversation guide for teams facing overwhelm that incorporates the valuable lessons from our interviews and community.

ICYMI, here’s a snapshot of the series so far:

1. Understanding and Tackling Overwhelm
First, we delved into what it means to be overwhelmed. It's not just about having too much on your plate; it's about your reaction to it. From reframing "I have to" into "I get to", to adopting a positive mindset, we explore strategies to transform overwhelm into empowerment

You can’t calm the storm, so stop trying. What you can do is calm yourself. The storm will pass.

2. The Collaborative Team Map
Next, we shared a simple but powerful tool: the Collaborative Team Map. This MVC (Minimal, Valuable Collaboration) technique helps teams visualize and organize overwhelming tasks, promoting clarity and shared understanding.

3. Circles and Soup Technique
Next, we interviewed Diana Larsen about the Circles and Soup technique, a brilliant way for teams to categorize tasks based on levels of control. It’s an adaptable method that reveals what teams can directly influence, offering a clear path forward in complex situations.

4. Confronting Tech and Meeting Overwhelm
In our conversation with Bob Sutton and Rebecca Hinds, we uncovered insights on managing tech overwhelm and meeting overload. They shared the importance of balancing top-down and bottom-up strategies, and cultivating a “subtraction mindset.”
